Lent: Part 19

Hustle & Flow (2005) – Either I just don’t get it, or the guy at Gamestop (where I bought this in bulk for about $5) doesn’t get it. Sure Terrence Howard is a good actor, but the church scene isn’t the finest scene I’ve ever seen. It’s not even the finest acting I’ve seen all week. It’s not even Terrence Howard’s finest scene. But apparently, it made Gamestop Guy cream his pants with artistic vision.

    My Two Cents: Part 19

When reading Toni Morrison’s The Bluest Eye, my professor wanted the class to explore other interpretations than “Incestual rape happens to black people,” or “Incestual rape happens to poor people.” In general, everything else that the class came up with was complete bullshit, because while I’m certain she was going for something else, that’s all us White Folk really got out of it.

Hustle & Flow made me feel the same way. There was a lot in there that I’m very confident that I just didn’t get.

It’s too bad I sold it in a garage sale. Another fine film is “A Polish Vampire in Burbank” About a young vampire whose time has come to be the blood-winner for the family. Only, he’s queezy about biting people. It’s so bad, it’s good. And I bought it for only $1.50 at Hastings.
