Lent: Part 31

Metropolis (1927) – Darien’s going to be mad when he reads this and realizes I watched another good silent movie without him. For those who don’t know, it’s essentially a prequel to Blade Runner with socialist overtones. I’d never heard the legend of the Tower of Babel told with such a humanist bent.

One of the only films I ever had to watch for a class (Modern Political Philosophy) and am still able to watch afterwards. Which says alot. I couldn’t watch Run Lola Run for about a year because I was associating it with a lit class I took. How the professor thought that Run Lola Run was related to the subject matter I don’t know. I just know that the bastard ruined a perfectly good movie for me.

Y’know, the guy who did Unico also did a reimagining of this. You should watch that next year! 😀 With me, because I STILL haven’t seen it and I’ve been meaning to see it for like six goddamn years!

I’d heard of the 2001 movie, but I didn’t realize it was a remake. In fact, it looks, from the summary, like the only real similarities are the future setting and the presence of a robot.

Well, I guess what I heard was it was “inspired by” the original. Still, it looks very very pretty and and I wanna see it! I actually still need to see the 1927 movie, too…
