My Two Cents, Year 5: Part 8

A competent fluff piece about interpersonal relationships. Clever early on, but devolves into cliche toward the end. To be fair, they try to twist the cliche at the end, but it’s clumsy and I caught them at it.

On the whole, I enjoyed it quite a bit, even if it didn’t bring much new to the table. I’m comfortable with it in the Top 10, but it wouldn’t have made Top 5 in any other year.

Huh. That film really worked for me, and I think it’s the best American comedy since Lost in Translation (although that’s more a statement of the state of modern comedies). If you have room in your Lent schedule, you might add a Preston Sturges socially-minded comedy to the mix for a good example of the genre it’s admirably hearkening back to.

I saw this just a couple days ago, too. Weird coincidence. I also called two things, including what you are probably calling the third thing, which I agree was a bit too direct of a reference. It seems like about once a month I’m telling Tim, “This is another story based on And Then There Were None”. That book is really everywhere.
