Lent: Part 15

Batman (1966) – Again we see the kind of writing and acting nobody seems to be able or willing to do now. It’s hard to imagine this comes from the same source material as the dreadfully serious Christopher Nolan series. Adam West and Burt Ward have some of the best deadpan comedic delivery I’ve ever seen. And I don’t know who this non-Kitt trollop is who thinks she’s Catwoman, but she’ll do.

A final note of caution. If, before the screening, Adam West and Burt Ward come out for an interview, Burt Ward will allude to the difficulties of getting him into tights, and that will become a point of distraction whenever he’s onscreen.

Sure, it’s an impressively different take on Batman, but it’s also one that basically ruined the character for 30 years. Then again, the pendulum has swung too far in the other direction now, and every comic book character has to be The Goddamned Batman.
